We were very happy to receive an exceptional Donation in the last few days at our Museum.
Our dear friend President of the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand Mr. Antonis Tsourdalakis has sent us from Australia four collectible empty cookie boxes produced by the ANZAC team and two excellent frames one of which contains three collectible numbered envelopes, issued by the Cretan Federation of Australia and New Zealand with fine medals commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Crete.
The second frame is dedicated to the timeless struggle of the Australian woman’s contribution to the war. It contains a series of collector’s stamps with the corresponding First Day of Circulation envelope, as well as a similar informative-historical text. These boxes together with the frames will decorate our respective spaces.
ANZAC is the acronym for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, which initially participated in World War I in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915 and later in other military operations and in the Battle of Crete. Remembrance days (Anzac Day) on April 25 have also been established in both countries.
Anzac Biscuits: Made by Australian women during World War I and given to soldiers leaving for the front. Since then, they have been made every year on the days celebrating the Victory. They are traditional cookies from Australia, which are placed and sold in specially made boxes with corresponding representations and emblems, which make excellent collections.
During the visit of our friend Antonis to our Museum in the summer months of 2022 and after a guided tour of our Museum premises, there was a thorough discussion about cooperation. Then our friend Antonis arranged for the sending of this excellent Donation. The long distance, as well as the procedures – difficulties until they arrived here were not an inhibiting factor.
We believe that our friend Antonis Tsourdalakis will continue with the same strength and love to offer to our country and that everyone in distant Australia will keep the Love for our homeland unquenchable.
Thanks again my friend. We are waiting for you in our Chania!
