The seminar entitled “Cultural Heritage School 3”, took place at the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, Crete from 5 to 7 June 2024 and was organized by the Ministry of Culture, the US Embassy. in Athens, and the Greek Section of the International Council of Museums (ICOM).
The Minister of Culture Mrs. Lina Mendoni and the chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy in Athens, Ms. Maria Olson, welcomed the start of the 3rd seminar in a row entitled “Cultural Heritage School 3”, where more than 60 cultural professionals and academics from Crete and abroad discussed the effects and ways of protecting cultural heritage monuments from climate change.
The Minister of Culture Ms. Lina Mendoni, welcoming the start of the seminar, highlighted the diagnosis and treatment of the effects of the climate crisis on cultural heritage as a priority for Greece and the United States, but also as an issue that needs a coordinated and sustained international effort.
Mrs. Maria Olson welcomed the opening of the conference, highlighting the close cooperation between the U.S. and Greece for the protection of cultural heritage, one of the priorities of the Strategic Dialogue between the two countries.
From the Maritime Museum of Crete, the General Secretary of the Board of Directors, assistant professor of the Hellenic Mediterranean University Mr. Yiannis Sitzimis and the scientific staff of the museum, Mr. Dimitris Tsatsaronis, Graduate Historian. In the context of the discussion, a souvenir was given to the president of the Greek ICOM section, Mrs. Teti Hatzinikolaou.
