Purpose
The purpose of the maritime Museum of Crete is:
1. To perform the destination on the basis of the definition of ‘Museum’, which is determined by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), i.e. as the entity’s legal and not-for-profit, in the service of society and its development, which is open to the public, which acquires, conserves, studies, disclose or communicate, and especially exposes the material evidence of man and his environment for the purpose of study, training, education, and entertainment.
2. To tighten the bonds of love, friendship and solidarity between its members and of society as well as, inter alia, their respective Clubs, who share the same love for the sea in Greece and abroad.
3. To maintain and promote the dissemination of the Navy’s spirit and our Maritime tradition to new generations as a source of national greatness and as a pillar of support for the national independence and economy.
4. To collects, preserves, exhibits and promotes all kinds of objects and artefacts related to the Maritime tradition and History.
5. To raise awareness of the world about the need for protection of the marine environment, through the acquaintance with and awareness of the actual destruction and unsustainable exploitation by humans.
Persons
The Maritime Museum of Crete is a Legal Person of Private Law and is managed by the President and οκταμελές (8) Board of directors which is elected directly from the C.P.
In The D.P. may participate in the voting:

c. The Commander of the naval base, Crete, or by a representative.

Library
The library of New york.M.K was founded in 1973 at the same time with the establishment of the Museum.
The donations of the friends of the New.M.K contributed to the enrichment of. The bulk of the collection consists of books of Naval History through the ages. There are books in English and foreign language on the Philosophy, Religion, Literature, history, History of Greece. Geography-Bibliographies, Applied Sciences, Technology, Encyclopedias. There are also old and rare publications.
The library I don’t it is a lending library.
Members
The Members of the Naval Museum of Crete , it amounts to 500 people about, that they all have in common :
– the preservation and dissemination of the Navy’s spirit and our Maritime tradition to new generations as a source of national greatness and as a pillar of support for the national independence and economy,
– the awareness of the need for protection of the marine environment, through the acquaintance with and awareness of the actual destruction of the reckless exploitation of man,
– the cultivation of the love to the water element as a source of life and national greatness.
Members enhance the Museum:
- Showcasing his work.
- Caring for the enrichment of the collections of the.
- Contributing to the achievement of the purposes of the donations, bequests and voluntary work.
- By actively participating in its activities.
The Members of the Museum:
- accept invitations to Museum events
- participate in the programs of the Museum
- 10% discount on items for sale
- access to the Library of the Museum
- the right to vote and to stand as a candidate in the elections of the Board of directors
For new member registration is required, application should be countersigned by two regular Members and shall include a statement of the person that accepts the statute and the purpose of the Association. The application is approved by a decision of the board.In
