With a modest but extremely symbolic ceremony at the Firkas Fortress in the Venetian Port of Chania, the first phase of the twinning of the Municipality of Chania with the Municipality of Tarpon Springs, Florida, USA was completed on the afternoon of Monday, September 20, 2021. With the lighthouse and The Port of Chania, at the place where the official ceremony of the union of Crete with Greece took place in 1913, the Mayors of Chania and Tarpon Springs, Panagiotis Simandirakis and Chrysostomos Alachouzos respectively, signed the twinning protocol of the two cities, with the presence of many people.
