With great joy and honor, the President and a Board Member of the Maritime Museum of Crete participated in the 30th Conference of the Association of Mediterranean Maritime Museums, held on 17–20 September 2025 in the cities of Sant Feliu de Guíxols and l’Escala in Catalonia, Spain.
Eleven maritime museums from eleven (11) different Mediterranean countries took part in the conference, with the Maritime Museum of Crete being the sole representative from Greece. With the Museum’s second participation in the Association’s conferences, bonds of cooperation and friendship with all member museums are being strengthened and consolidated, resulting in the establishment of new collaborations across the Mediterranean.
The presentation of our Museum at the conference on Friday, 19 September, focused on the Minoan Civilization and the construction of the representative replica of a Minoan-period ship, carried out by our Museum between 2001–2004, which took part in the opening events of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
Subsequently, following our presentation, we submitted and presented our proposal to host the 31st Conference of the Association in 2026 in Chania, organized by the Maritime Museum of Crete. With great joy and pride, this proposal was unanimously accepted.
We are now beginning preparations with great enthusiasm and consistency so that the conference will be organized and realized in the best possible way, achieving the widest possible promotion of our national history, maritime tradition, and local culture.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all participants and member museums of the Association, and in particular to the two co-organizing museums of the conference: the Museu d’Història de Sant Feliu de Guíxols in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and the Museu de l’Anxova i de la Sal in l’Escala.
