With great honor, the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Museum of Crete attended the opening of the Maritime Museum of Thira on Saturday, October 21, 2023 on the island of Santorini. The maritime history of Thira is reflected in the Maritime Museum, which was renovated with the sponsorship of M/Maritime and opened its doors to the public. A museum, where educational and other activities will be hosted.
The history of merchant shipping of this area is a centuries-long story of achievements that reaches to the present day. Shipowners and capitalists of an island of 76.19 square kilometers managed the second largest merchant fleet in the central Aegean, developed trading houses in the communities of the diaspora, from the Black Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean and to Northern Europe.
