The exhibition traveled from the Maritime Museum of Crete to Santorini Maritime Museum where it will be hosted until October 25, 2024. The opening took place on Saturday, April 27, 2024 where the museum is housed, in the presence of distinguished guests, businessmen and residents of the island.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Commander (Eng) HN ret. Emmanuel Petrakis, president of the Maritime Museum of Crete with members of the Board of Directors, who embraced and supported the work of Santorini Maritime Museum from the first moment and helped introduce the museum to the public and institutions beyond the island of Santorini. The partnership and friendship of the two museums led to the co-organization and hosting of the ‘Lighthouses of the World’ philatelic exhibition. A wonderful collection of stamps, depicting lighthouses from around the world, exquisitely selected after years of research and sorting as well as their showcases.
The event was presented by Mr. Iosif Markakis, Vice President of the Board of Directors. of N.M. Crete, while greetings were addressed by the president of the Maritime Museum of Thira, Mrs. Nicoletta Nomikou, the president of the Historical Archive-Museum of Hydra, Mrs. Dina Adamopoulou and the president of the Maritime Museum of Crete, Commander (Eng) HN ret. Emmanuel Petrakis.
After the speeches, there was a presentation of the exhibition, a free tour of the museum premises as well as a treat with various dishes and local wines, an offer from restaurants and wineries of Santorini.
