On Wednesday, February 5, 2025, the inauguration of the philatelic exhibition titled “Navigation” took place at the historic post office building in Ljubljana. The exhibition is a co-organization of the Maritime Museum of Crete, the Philatelic Association of Slovenia (Filatelistična Zveza Slovenije), Pošta Slovenije (Slovenian Post), and the Hellenic Foundation for Culture – Italy, Trieste (Fondazione Ellenica di Cultura – Italia, Trieste), which is also responsible for Slovenia. The event is held under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece in Slovenia and will run until February 28.
The Ambassador of Greece to Slovenia, Mr. Argyris Makris, emphasized the deep and longstanding connection of Greeks with the sea and maritime traditions, from mythology and antiquity to the modern era.
The opening ceremony was attended by a large audience, including members of both the Greek and Slovenian communities. Notable attendees included the Ambassador of Greece to Slovenia, Mr. Argyris Makris, who delivered a speech in Slovenian, and the Consul of Greece in Slovenia, Mr. Nikolaos Vagdoutis.
Speeches were also given by:
- Mr. Bojan Bračič, President of the Philatelic Association of Slovenia, and
- Mr. Aleksander Salkič, Director of the Executive Office of Administration and Corporate Communications of Slovenian Post, both in Slovenian.
- Ms. Aliki Kefalogianni, Director of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture – Italy, and
- Mr. Ioannis Giannakakis, Deputy Mayor of Chania for Culture, who addressed the audience in English.
- Commodore (Eng) Emmanuel Petrakis HN (Ret.), Chairman of the Maritime Museum of Crete, who spoke in Greek with a Slovenian translation provided by Mr. Emmanuel Perrakis, a resident of Ljubljana.
For the needs of the exhibition, the President and members of the Board of Directors of the Maritime Museum of Crete were also present. The exhibition will conclude on February 28.
