The Maritime Museum of Crete, represented by its President and General Secretary, participated, following an official invitation, in the opening ceremony of the International Philatelic Exhibition BALKANFILA XXI 2026, held from 29 April to 2 May 2026 at the Palace of Culture in Pernik, Bulgaria.
The event formed part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the International Federation of Philately (FIP), bringing together prominent institutions, collectors, and representatives of cultural organizations from across the Balkans and Europe. The participation of the Maritime Museum of Crete in this international event is part of the Museum’s broader strategy of extroversion, aiming to strengthen its international presence, promote Greece’s maritime history and cultural heritage, and foster collaborations with related institutions abroad.
During the opening events, representatives of the Museum had the opportunity to engage with international philatelic organizations and cultural institutions, exchange expertise and best practices, and explore prospects for future cooperation at both exhibition and research levels. This participation further enhances the international profile of the Maritime Museum of Crete and highlights the importance of maritime heritage as a means of cultural dialogue and cooperation, contributing meaningfully to a broader framework for the exchange of knowledge and experience within the fields of museums and cultural management.
